Emergency Boxes

This box can save lives

During the press conference on 15th January 2026 at the City of Luxembourg, we officially launched our new project “Lions Emergency Box” aimed primarily at (elderly) people living alone at home.

The Box is a simple but effective way for people to keep their basic personal and medical information, where they can be found in an emergency on a standard form and in a common location – the fridge.
It helps emergency services save valuable time by quickly identifying a person and knowing if they have any allergies or take any special medication.

From 16 January 2026 onwards, 5,000 emergency boxes are distributed, primarily via the Bierger-Center of the City of Luxembourg. Each box contains a multilingual patient information sheet, stickers for the front door and fridge, and instructions for use. The completed sheet provides first responders with essential health information and can save critical time in emergencies.

This approach has already proved effective in several other European countries. “When every minute counts, having the right medical information immediately available can save lives. This simple box can make a real difference,” says Dr Arkadiusz Hojny, President of the Club and project coordinator for Luxembourg.

The Lions Emergency Box project has received generous support from the Lions Luxembourg Foundation, the Ministry of Health and Social Security, and the City of Luxembourg, which is also the main logistical and organisational partner, while the CGDIS is our main operational partner.

The project was possible thanks to the enormous contributions in-kind from Lions Club members and other volunteers. All of them deserve our gratitude – their commitment changed the world for the better.

You can watch the tutorials on how to use the boxes. These videos are available in all 3 administrative languages of Luxembourg:

You can also download the patient information sheet and flyers, both available in trilingual versions: LU/FR/DE and LU/EN/PT:
